Young innovation for OMC 30th anniversary
It was in 1993 that the first edition of OMC - Med Energy Conference was held in Ravenna at that time under the name of Offshore Mediterranean Conference and Exhibition.
Today, 30 years later, OMC has become the leading energy event in the Mediterranean area. An evolutionary path successfully achieved thanks to OMC capability to understand the requests and the new inputs coming from the energy scenario, by anticipating and innovating the new demands of the industry.
From being an event focused exclusively on oil&gas, over the last decade OMC has been enlarging its scope, with renewable sources becoming a relevant part of the programme, as well as being one of the most discussed topics within the public debate on decarbonisation.
From 23rd to 25th of May, OMC will celebrate its 30th anniversary in Ravenna, (Italy). Over the years, the city in the Emilia-Romagna region has become the energy capital of an entire geographic area, which has always been central in the energy debate, a real energy lab. It is not by chance that the first offshore wind farm and a floating photovoltaic plant will be installed off the coast of Ravenna.
The 16th edition of OMC - Med Energy Conference & Exhibition will focus on the fundamental role of a Mediterranean alliance in the energy sector able to achieve environmental, economic and social sustainability. Furthermore, it will be an opportunity to strengthen the proposal of in-depth actions and experiences dedicated to the younger generations, in increasingly engaging and innovative ways.
The ORA! project (Outpost Ravenna for Energy Transition), launched last February by Eni and Mind the Bridge (a non-profit promoting innovation by connecting companies, universities and start-ups), goes this way. The project, involving education of young talents in the sector, training in local companies and selecting the best start-ups, supports the development and then consolidation of the blue and green economy. The project will get into the thick of things at OMC Med Energy Conference on 23rd May during the contest among companies, students and start-ups.
During the three-day OMC Med Conference, the Innovation Room will set up a dedicated space for young professionals and researchers, such as university students, startups and companies. Among the planned initiatives, the Energy Hackathon is a chance for bright young minds to meet and work together at new innovative solutions for the energy transition, while the Call4Ideas - Mediterranean Region is open to young researchers' projects involved in the energy field.
Every year OMC expands its vision, confirming itself as a must-attend event for the energy sector, in Italy and throughout the Mediterranean, for a sustainable development of the whole area.
