OMC-MED ENERGY CONFERENCE ENTERS INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH OME, OBSERVATOIRE MÉDITERRANÉEN DE L'ENERGIE TO FOSTER COOPERATION AND INTEGRATION IN THE ENERGY FIELD
OMC-Med Energy Conference has signed a memorandum of understanding with OME, Observatoire Méditerranéen de l'Energie, a non-profit organisation set up in 1991 that brings together leading Mediterranean energy companies, to promote cooperation and exchange of know-how in the area.
In the energy transition underway, OME and OMC share strong synergies and can benefit from exchanging experiences related to their activities in the energy field in the Mediterranean, which are essential in order to achieve sustainable development and decarbonisation objectives.
What makes the signing of the agreement – which will last three years and was signed by Monica Spada, President of OMC-Med Energy Conference, and Houda Ben Jannet Allal, Director General of OME – so significant is obviously the issues of sustainable energy and energy transition, to which OMC will specifically dedicate the international event scheduled in Ravenna for 28-30 September.
As a result of the agreement, Dr. Allal herself will take part in OMC 2021 at the end of September. OME will invite its member companies to attend the event in Ravenna and will support the OMC Programme Committee.
Joint initiatives will also be carried out regarding promotion, communication, and networking. Conferences, workshops, and training activities in the energy sector in Mediterranean countries will be organised through a special working group, and new content for future editions of the Ravenna event will also be decided.
Monica Spada, President of OMC-Med Energy Conference, states: "The signing of this international agreement opens up new growth prospects for the event. It is no coincidence that the 2021 edition will focus on the entire Mediterranean basin. The challenges of the energy transition involve all countries, and only through close cooperation will it be possible to achieve the 2030 and 2050 goals".
Houda Ben Jannet Allal, Director General of OME, states: “Our projections clearly show that without a drastic change in the way energy is produced, distributed and consumed in the region, Mediterranean countries will not be able to achieve their goals in terms of energy transition and sustainable development, as reflected in their long-term commitments within the Paris Agreement Framework. Only a fair and just regional cooperation will ensure mutual benefits for both shores, enabling EU countries to reach their carbon neutrality goals and South and East Mediterranean countries to quickly embark in an energy transition process.”
