OMC MED ENERGY CONFERENCE 2021
FIRST GUESTS ANNOUNCED AND NEWS ON THE PROGRAMME
With just over four months to go before the OMC-Med Energy Conference, scheduled to take place in Ravenna from 28 to 30 September and dedicated to the energy transition in the Mediterranean area, around twenty prominent guests have already announced their attendance.
This is an important result, considering the limitations still in force due to the Covid pandemic, which demonstrates how the debate on decarbonisation objectives has become a pressing priority in the Mediterranean.
Among government officials, the presence of the Cypriot Energy Minister, Natasa Pilides, is particularly noteworthy, and confirmation of other ministers from the Mediterranean area is expected.
Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, and leading figures from international bodies and institutions linked to the world of renewable energies, such as the Director General of the Mediterranean Energy Observatory (OME), Houda Ben Jannet Allal; the Head of the CCUS of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Samantha McCulloch; the Secretary General of RES4Africa (Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa), Roberto Vigotti; and the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Grammenos Mastrojeni, will also be present.
As for the major companies involved in the energy transition, the following will be present: the Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach, Toufik Hakkar; the Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla; the CEO of BP, Bernard Looney; and the CEO of Vår Energi, Torger Rød. Total will be represented by Laurent Wolffsheim, SVP - Strategy Growth & People Gas, Renewables and Power;
The presence of the following people has also been announced: Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe; the top management of the Global CCUS Institute; Stefano Venier, CEO of Hera; Tareq Emtairah, Energy Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO); Luca D'Agnese, Energy and Digitalisation Director of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti; and Patrizio Pagano, Head of the Directorate's Special Secretariat Service, for the Bank of Italy.
Other key figures in the debate on carbon-free development will be added in the next few days, but the names confirmed already suggest a very strong interest on the part of all the stakeholders involved on this front.
The subjects of the four strategic sessions are of major topical interest: the repositioning of the post-pandemic industry and medium- and long-term objectives; the transformation of upstream activities and new business models to achieve a zero-emission future; facilitating and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future through an alliance between the North and South of the Mediterranean; and the prospects for energy transition and the investments and policies needed for a low-carbon energy system.
