OMC 2021 MOVES TO SEPTEMBER
RETHINKING ENERGY TOGETHER: ALLIANCES FOR A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FUTURE
RAVENNA, 28-30 SEPTEMBER 2021 - PALA DE ANDRÉ
RAVENNA – From 28 to 30 September 2021 Ravenna will host the 15th edition of the Offshore Mediterranean Conference and Exhibition (OMC), which aims at becoming the energy conference for the Mediterranean region, with the focus on a sustainable energy future.
The event was planned for the end of May, but due to the ongoing pandemic the decision has been made to rescheduled for the end of September.
“We are committed to hold OMC in person to give new impetus to the event while sustaining the territory and the local economy, therefore a date repositioning becomes necessary” explains Monica Spada, Chair OMC 2021.
The theme of the edition is ”Rethinking energy together: alliances for a sustainable energy future”. To debate, foster synergies and partnerships, identify solutions for the energy transition, involving all stakeholders across the energy value chain, including all energy sources and considering OMC as a catalyst to foster partnerships are the major targets of the new OMC.
“The next OMC – continues Monica Spada – will focus on the energy transition challenge, starting from the industry know-how and expertise of the last decade, towards a low carbon mix, in a holistic perspective which embraces all forms of energy and a wider spectrum of stakeholders.
There is no single solution for such important challenges, but a set of paths to be identified and tested together. This is why creating alliances, focusing more and more on partnerships among energy operators, contractors, institutions and consumers, aligning on common goals and finding adequate solutions becomes crucial. And approaching and engaging schools, universities and the youth along this path is part of the OMC2021 mission.
Among the features introduced, the Programme Committee chaired by Edoardo Dellarole represents the real strength of the organization, as it has enlarged its composition adding experts from the circular economy and digitalization fields to address new competences. After evaluating an important number of abstracts the Programme Committee has selected more than 150 papers to set up the conference programme which will cover areas such as operational excellence, carbon neutrality, circular economy and digitalization.
The strategic sessions will feature international speakers debating on the post pandemic repositioning of the energy industry, on medium-long term goals, new business models towards a net zero future, on alliances between the North and South Mediterranean as well as investments and policies needed to achieve a low carbon energy system.
A unique and exciting feature is the “innovation room”, a new session of open events to facilitate the exchange of views among the different stakeholders, the youth, the researchers and start ups. There will be a start up session, an hackathon to find ideas and solutions relating to the 2030 goals, a call for ideas for universities and research institutes of the Mediterranean and North African region to share views on the energy transition and a contest to address the schools of the territory.
In line with the theme of the event, OMC is making alliances with Italian and foreign associations, to catalyze synergies and knowledge exchange among operators from different sectors, with the scope of fueling the dialogue beyond the OMC event.
